Remember if you are not refilling a metrocard, the card itself costs $1 on top of the fare price!

Unlimited metrocards allow for multiple rides for a set time frame and at a discount. Compare prices for unlimited metrocards to your calculated fare price. Check if this type of metrocard is worth getting for your commute!

As of April 21, 2019, the base fare (a single ride) is $2.75.

A 7-day Unlimited Metrocard is $33.00

A 30-day Unlimited Metrocard is $127.00

You may qualify for reduced fare prices! Learn more HERE!

Be aware that unlimited metrocards do not allow for immediate consecutive uses! If you need consecutive rides for whatever reason, you'll need to wait a few minutes or go for a walk, the true New Yorker way. Learn more about the intricacies and any changes concerning metrocards at MTA.info

Service Status

The NYC subway is getting on in years. The first parts of it opened on October 27, 1904, which is over a century ago, and it sure shows! There are often delays, signal problems, and service changes.

Fortunately, the MTA does its best to inform the public of issues that disrupt service with service advisories and notifications online and posted in stations. Be sure to check what might be going on, so there are no surprises...though that's no guarantee for a smooth ride. Find out more at MTA HQ

Hidden Treasures

NYC's subway system has a rich and interesting history, and consequently, there is plenty to learn, do, and see. In and around these train lines are plenty of hidden treasures and unique activities if you know where to look.

Vintage Train Rides

The New York Transit Museum not only offers a look into New York City's transit past and present, but also has a fleet of vintage subway cars and buses. Around the holidays, one such vintage train is put back into service one day every week in December.

This special eight-car subway train of R1-9 cars from the 1930s has rattan seats, ceiling fans, incandescent bulb lighting, drop-sash style windows, vintage roll signs, and original advertisements. The experience is definitely unique and a special step into the past, priced at the usual Metrocard fare. Be sure to look out for it!

The train runs along the F train line between 2nd Avenue and Lexington Avenue / 63rd Street and via the Q train line between Lexington Avenue / 63rd Street and 96th Street on the Upper East Side.

The special train leaves the 2nd Avenue station on the F line at 10am, 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm and from the 96th Street subway station on the Q line at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm.

IF that is not enough holiday spirit for you, check out the annual Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Station inside the New York Transit Museum shop there.
